(Karlstad, 27 September 2023) With an ever-escalating threat scenario, more companies and organizations are beginning to conduct active cyber security work and the demand for competence in the field is steadily increasing. Dizparc Secured and Karlstad University are joining forces and offer a new position that combines part-time work as a cyber security consultant with postgraduate training and a future doctoral degree.

The initiative is carried out together with other partners within the Industrial Graduate School in Cyber Security (SIGS-CyberSec), co-financed by the KK Foundation, and the plan is for a total of 8 people to become part of the 5-year program that will be launched in the fall of 2023. At Dizparc Secured, the team is looking forward to welcoming a new colleague.

"- All of us working here have a genuine interest in cyber security and want to contribute to increased access to competence in the cyber security area so that all businesses, even small and medium-sized ones, have the opportunity to protect themselves in the way needed. We believe that one piece of the puzzle to solve the skills shortage is to raise the awareness of cyber security as a future career path for younger people and make the subject more attractive. Starting this initiative together with the university is, as we see it, as a step in that direction and it feels extremely exciting. We have a solid knowledge and experience of cyber security and adding additional knowledge from the academic world, we believe, will benefit all parties," says Johan Nilsson, at Dizparc Secured.

Today, the recruitment of a new employee is in full swing with a planned start of employment in December. An appointed supervisor from Karlstad University will support along the way and shares the high expectations of the future collaboration.

"- We immediately felt that Dizparc Secured is the right company to participate in this venture. In addition to the fact that they have exactly the right profile in terms of competence and offer, it is positive that they are local, which provides good conditions to build a strong collaboration and relationship locally in Karlstad. We look forward to diving more deeply into areas such as ethical hacking, pentesting, offensive and defensive cyber security, AI and Machine Learning together and develop new tools and techniques", says Leonardo Martucci, Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor at Karlstad University.

For Karlstad University, the initiative means an exciting opportunity to combine research with the business world within a highly topical issue. In recent years, Karlstad and Värmland have begun to develop into a security hub where many different initiatives are underway, for example linked to MSB's local presence and various collaborations with Norway.

"- Cyber security is important for society at large and we must be able to ensure that various critical societal functions work, especially in times of war and political crises. In addition to protecting ourselves against attacks, we also need to work on increasing trust in society that systems are secure and work. With our initiative, we hope to be involved and contribute to just that," concludes Simone Fischer-Hübner, Professor, Karlstad University, and director and project coordinator of the SIGS-CyberSec industrial graduate school.
